This 786 acre park on the Chesapeake Bay is celebrating 50 years. Opened onJune 25, 1952, the park offers an array of recreational activities. Theseinclude swimming, fishing, crabbing, boating and windsurfing. The park'sbeaches and picnic areas provide unparalleled views of the Chesapeake BayBridge over the Chesapeake Bay as well as frequent passing of seagoingfreighters and sailing regattas. Swimming
1. Sandy Point State Park offers a large, lifeguard-protected swimming beach on the Chesapeake Bay.
2. The park's South Beach is perfect for families with its shallow waters and sandy bottom.
3. Swimming areas are marked by buoys to ensure safety of swimmers from boating activities in the bay area.
4. Restrooms, showers and changing facilities are conveniently located near the beaches for visitors' use after swimming or sunbathing.
5. Snack bars provide refreshments close to both North and South beaches during summer months when open-air grills aren't allowed due to fire risk restrictions.
6. The park also rents out paddleboards which can be used within designated swim zones only.

Boating
The park, located in Maryland, offers a variety of boating options for visitors. There are 22 launch ramps available to accommodate boats and watercrafts of all sizes. The boat rental facility provides rowboats during the summer season while personal watercraft can be launched from designated areas within the park's boundaries throughout the year. Fishing is also permitted with appropriate licenses on board your vessel.
Fishing
Enjoy fishing from the shore or pier, with species like rockfish, perch and blue crabs. Boat rentals are available too.

Crabbing is also popular here due to a large population of Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs.

Fishing licenses may be required depending on your age and residency status in Maryland.

The park offers bait shops for convenience as well as picnic areas for post-fishing relaxation.

Remember that catch limits apply to certain fish such as striped bass during specific seasons.

Picnicking
Sandy Point State Park offers picnic areas with grills, pavilions for rent, and stunning views of the Chesapeake Bay.
Bicycling
While biking is not explicitly prohibited, there are no designated bike trails. Be mindful of pedestrians and vehicles.

Bicyclists must adhere to the park's 10 mph speed limit for safety reasons.

Cycling on beaches or in picnic areas isn't allowed; stick to paved roads only.

Ensure you wear a helmet at all times when cycling as per Maryland law requirements.

Avoid riding after dark since the park does not have any lighting facilities along its paths or roadways.

Remember that cyclists share space with motorists - exercise caution while navigating through parking lots and campgrounds.
Birding
The park offers diverse birding options with over 200 species recorded. It's a hotspot for waterfowl and shorebirds during migration seasons. Birdwatchers can spot ospreys, bald eagles, herons, egrets among others in the wetlands area. The woodland areas house warblers, woodpeckers and thrushes.
Area Attractions
Bird watching, boat launch, 6 hp motor boat rentals, canoeing, kayaking, crabbing, cross country skiing, fishing, historic interest, hiking trails, picnic, playground, shelters, swimming, wind surfing.

Boating - The marina facility includes 22 launching ramps. Six finger piers are available for day use on a first come, first served basis. The Marina Store offers bait, tackle, fuel and fishing and crabbing licenses, snacks and drinks, and limited picnic supplies. Rowboats and motorboats are available for rent in late spring, summer and early fall. Call the Sandy Point Marina for availability and prices at 410-974-2772. The marina pumpout is available April through October. Closing of the pumpout station in the fall is contingent upon the weather. After the end of September, please call our headquarters office at 410-974-2149 to check availability.

Beaches - The park's beaches, among the finest on the Chesapeake Bay, are guarded during the summer season. Picnic areas are located adjacent to the beach with picnic tables and limited grills. Facilities include showers and restrooms. A food concession, selling snack food and beach and picnic supplies, is located in the South Beach area.

Crabbing - A crabbing and fishing pier is located at the south end of the boat launch ramps. The Marina Store also sells crabbing supplies.

Fishing - Fishing is available from shore, numerous rock jetties or the fishing pier next to the boat launch ramps. A Chesapeake Bay Sport Fishing license is required for those 16 years of age and older. Fishing licenses are available for sale in the Marina Store.

Hiking - Two hiking trails provide a unique view of the diverse habitat of the park. The Symbi Trail is an old planted pine forest that leads you through marshes in various growth stages. The East Beach Trail goes from East Beach to the Point Area through the woods and over a marsh.

Sandy Point Mansion - The mansion, currently under private curatorship, dates back to the late 1700's when the park area was a farm. The mansion can be seen from the main park road but is not open to the public.

Smallcraft Launch Area - A smallcraft launch area is available for launching/landing windsurfers, hobie cats, canoes, kayaks and catamarans.

Shelters - Twelve picnic shelters are available for group rentals by reservation. Nine shelters can accommodate 140 persons, two shelters can accommodate 180 persons and one shelter can accommodate 300 persons. The shelters include picnic tables, grills and limited electrical hook ups. Water is available nearby. A swimming beach and bathhouse is also located in the East Beach shelter area.

park review stars; one to five Sandy Point is the best State Park In Maryland, The park personal are geart, they will help you with any thing. You can not ask for a better state park. This park is like paradise in haven, This is the only good thing that the Governor of Maryland has ever done. If you have never been to sandy point, you have miss a geart place to be.
