History of the Area
Located in Covington County, Alabama, the park was established in 1971. It spans over 40 acres on Lake Jackson's shores. The lake is known for being a perfect circle and straddles both Florida and Alabama borders.

The area has been inhabited by humans since prehistoric times with Native American tribes such as Creek Indians residing there before European settlers arrived.

In the late 19th century, it became popular due to its railroad connection which brought tourists seeking health benefits from local springs.

During World War II, part of this land served as an auxiliary airfield supporting military training activities at Eglin Field (now Eglin Air Force Base) located nearby in Florida.

Today it offers various recreational opportunities including camping sites along with fishing spots making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
Camping
Florala State Park Campground has 23 campsites with 30 amp electrical service, water and sewage hook-up. Each site has a picnic table and grill. Located in the campground is a modern bathhouse with coin operated laundry facilities. A large pavilion is available for campers and can be used on a first come first serve basis. A boat launch is located in the campground area for park visitor convenience.

Fishing
Lake Jackson is considered one of the cleanest and clearest bodies of water in the state, the lake supports fishing, boating, swimming, and water-skiing. A boat launch and piers provide access to the water for fishermen hoping to capture the bass.
