BUFFALO BILL STATE PARK
Park Headquarters, nine miles west of Cody on US Highway 14-16-20.
The majestic peaks of the Absaroka Mountains dominate the scenery at Buffalo Bill State Park. Two campsites, North Fork and North Shore, have a limited number of reservable sites. Learn more about the area at the Visitor Center with the interpretive exhibits, touch-screen computers, audio/visual presentation and a staff to help visitors.
NORTH SHORE BAY CAMPGROUND: 37 sites: 29 pull-through sites, 3 back-in, and 5 designated tent only; 7 of the sites are reservable, the remainder are available on a first come-first served basis. Located approximately 9 miles west of Cody on US Highway 14-16-20 (North Fork Highway).
NORTH FORK CAMPGROUND: 62 sites: 56 pull through sites and 6 designated tent-only sites; 14 of the sites are reservable, the remainder are available on a first come-first served basis. Located approx. 14 miles west of Cody on US Highway 14-16-20 (North Fork Highway).
All campsites have tables and grills and are convenient to water hydrants and restrooms. There are no utility hookups or showers at either campground. Except those designated tent-only campsites will accommodate trailers, tents or RVs. Roads and parking areas are paved.
Anglers can enjoy fishing in the reservoir, with opportunities to catch trout, walleye, yellow perch, and smallmouth bass. Shoreline access and boat ramps are available for different fishing experiences. The North Fork of the Shoshone River also offers excellent fly-fishing for rainbow and cutthroat trout. Ice fishing is popular during winter months when conditions allow.

TROUT CREEK GROUP CAMPING AREA is located within North Fork Campground. This area provides a large shelter with tables and grill, an area for tents, and enough parking space for a group of trailers, RV's, etc. The group camping area is available on a reserved use basis only. The is a shelter use fee per day plus the fee for damage deposit is required in addition to the park daily use and camping fees.
SHEEP MOUNTAIN DAY USE AREA provides a large shelter with tables and a grill, a playground area and enough parking for large groups. The group area is available to reserve. The is a shelter use fee per day plus the damage deposit fee is required in addition to the park daily use fees.
Buffalo Bill State Park offers scenic picnic areas with tables and grills overlooking the reservoir and surrounding mountains.
EAGLE POINT TRAIL is located within Eagle Point Day Use Area and is handicapped accessible. This trail is the first phase of a planned trail system along the north shoreline.
When considering cycling in the area, it's important to be mindful of weather conditions and trail difficulty. The North Fork Highway Pathway offers a paved route for riders seeking scenic views alongside US-14/16/20.
For those venturing off-road, caution is advised as trails may have uneven terrain or loose gravel. No specific mountain biking trails are designated within the park boundaries; however, nearby national forests provide options.
Always check with local resources before planning your ride to ensure paths are open and safe for bicycles. Remember that wildlife encounters can occur; carry bear spray and know how to use it.
Cyclists should wear appropriate safety gear at all times and inform someone about their travel plans when exploring remote areas. Keep an eye on changing weather patterns which could impact visibility or path conditions quickly.
Lastly, respect park rules regarding bicycle access-some areas might restrict bikes during certain seasons due to conservation efforts or visitor safety concerns.
