This was one of our last parks we visited. I rowed the boat up river one mile with Rachel and two dogs inside. Proof that we would do anything to step foot in all 120 parks in one Summer. This is the only park not accessable by car.

Accessible only by boat, the 50-acre Allegheny Islands State Park consists of two alluvial islands and seven shoals in the Allegheny River. The park is heavily covered in vegetation and remains undeveloped. Some of the few islands left in a natural state, the islands are homes to many animals and plants and frequently flood.

The 14-acre upper island eastern is opposite the mouth of Black Run and east of C.W. Bill Young Lock and Dam 3.

The 34-acre lower island western is west of the lock between the mouths of Falling Springs Run and Black Run.

There are no developed trails, however, several footpaths exist.

The park is open every day of the year, sunrise to sunset.
History of the Area
Located in Pennsylvania, the park consists of two alluvial islands spread over 43 acres. Established in 1980, it is completely undeveloped and accessible only by boat. The land was purchased from private owners to protect its natural state for future generations. It's home to a variety of wildlife species including birds and small mammals.

Boating
The park, located in the Allegheny River, is only accessible by boat. There are no formal boating facilities provided within the area itself; however, nearby public and private marinas offer launching points for canoes or kayaks to reach it. Motorboating is also allowed on this section of river with powerboats frequently seen around these islands. The water conditions vary greatly depending upon weather events so caution should be exercised while navigating here.
Fishing
Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy angling in the Allegheny River, teeming with species like smallmouth bass and northern pike. The river also houses walleye, muskellunge, catfish and carp for a diverse fishing experience. Boat access is necessary due to island-only accessibility of this park.

Location
Allegheny Islands State Park is located near Allison Park, Apollo and Bethel Park
