A recreational-educational park that is accessible for hiking and picnicking from sunrise to sunset. Facilities include a restroom, pavilions, picnic areas, grills, public water supply, handicap trail to historical marker, and a hiking trail from base parking lot to the top of Cathedral Mountain and across the mesa to view the valley floor and Lone Peak Mountain. Points of interest include land geography, geological formations, Selenite gypsum, scenery and wildlife. This range is also known as the Glass Mountains.
History of the Area
Located in Major County, Oklahoma, the park is named after its selenite gypsum content that gives it a shiny appearance. The area was designated as a state park by the State of Oklahoma in 1999. It spans over 640 acres and features unique red mesas with high mineral contents. Known for hiking trails offering panoramic views, this site attracts nature enthusiasts from around the world.

1. Cathedral Mountain Trail: This is the main trail in Gloss Mountain State Park, a 1. 2-mile round trip that takes hikers to the top of Cathedral Mountain for panoramic views.

2. Lone Peak Pathway: A shorter offshoot from the main trail, this pathway leads to an isolated peak with unique geological features.

3. Rattlesnake Ridge Route: Known for its wildlife sightings and wildflower displays during springtime, it's slightly more challenging than other trails due to uneven terrain.

4. Red Sandstone Road: An easy walk along flat ground showcasing red sandstones formations throughout your journey; no specific length provided but considered short by regular visitors.

5. The Overlook Walkway: It's a paved path leading up towards an overlook platform offering stunning vistas of surrounding landscape without any strenuous climbing involved; approximately half mile long.
