Council Grounds State Park offers a designated swimming area at the beach on Lake Alexander. No lifeguards are present, so visitors swim at their own risk. The sandy beach is suitable for families and includes nearby picnic areas. Swimming outside of the marked area is not recommended due to boat traffic and safety concerns. Restrooms and changing facilities are available close to the swimming spot for convenience.
Fishing
Anglers can enjoy fishing on the Wisconsin River, which offers walleye, smallmouth bass, northern pike, and muskellunge. Shoreline spots and boat launches are available for easy access to water. Ice fishing is popular during winter months with opportunities to catch panfish as well.

Picnicking
Council Grounds State Park offers scenic picnic areas with tables and grills overlooking the Wisconsin River. Shelters are available for rent.
Bicycling
When considering cycling options, it's important to be aware that trail conditions can vary with weather and seasons. The park offers a paved bike path known as the River Edge Parkway which provides scenic views along its route; however, cyclists should remain vigilant for pedestrians sharing the path.

Additionally, there are multi-use trails where bikes are permitted. These include sections like Red Trail or Blue Loop - but caution is advised due to potential mixed traffic from hikers and varying terrain challenges.

Before setting out on any of these paths, ensure your bicycle is in good working order and you have appropriate safety gear. It's also wise to check local advisories for current trail status updates before planning your ride.
